"We killers are your sons, your husbands, and we are everywhere."

The Ham Sandwich Volume 4 #3 (September 7, 2022)

Letter From The Writer, Creator, Ham Sandwich

I promised to try and make this a more regularly updated email-zine, thingy, whatever the hell it is, so I am trying. Just to prove it, I have written another issue.

In this episode, we will look at the always fun topic of serial killers. The FBI website defines these murderers as killers who have 3 or more murders with similar characteristics that connect them, usually, that connecting similarity is the killer themselves. It is estimated that there are around 50 serial killers active in the United States at any given time, but homicide activist Thomas Hargrove speculates that the number is actually between 3,000 and 4,000 active in this country. God, I hope it's not that many, though I don't see how it could be that high of a number without there being some kind of media frenzy going on with at least a few of those murderers being around.

Most of us will use the term "Evil" when describing these people, but using this term makes it seem like an abstract to cut and paste onto some of these individuals to make them more fictitious. Like there is some kind of alternate basis in reality that does not apply to our world that they exist in. The hard thing to truly face is all these people did, or do, exist in our world. These people, and people like them, have been, and still are, out there.

Though most of these killers are in jail or dead, many of them have been glamorized in the mainstream media. I mean look at all the movies and tv specials made about them. Now I know what you going to say next; "but Ham you are writing an article about them. How is that not glamorization?" I tell you what, it is. I am no better than the entertainment industry we are all a slave too. I am sorry that I cannot be a guiding light to say that I have some better reason for writing this other than entertainment, and even if I would like to believe that I do have a better reason for doing it, the honest answer is that I don't. It would be nice to think that, by me writing these articles I create more awareness and somehow build a more vigilant and secure society that would identify and remove the element of people like these, but the sad truth is, that no matter how engaging or poignant the material I make is, it will rarely change anyone's behavior. All you have to do to know that is to look at all the films or television shows that aimed to help our society become more open, less biased and increasingly antifascist or antiviolent, and more freethinking and watch how time and time again, they have failed.

So, sit down relax and read this article, knowing that your neighbor might be murdering someone right now and you probably wouldn't even know it and even if you did, what would you do about it, less you fear becoming his next victim?

A warning about this issue. Some of the information and videos are pretty graphic. So proceed with caution on clicking on the video links.

Serial Killers

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

Here's a disturbing film for you all to watch. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is everything you'd expect it to be. A deranged killer, killing. That's what it is. Most of what you're going to read, or watch, on this page will be pretty disturbing. Feel free to chicken out and look elsewhere to get your jollies, but you know there is a dark side of you that wants to look into this much darker side of the world.

Worst Serial Killers of all time

Now here's a disturbing list by the numbers. To get things started I will use this video to show some of the body counts of some of the most heinous serial killers of our time, or at least somewhat of our time. I guess there are a few older serial killer references in there like Jack the Ripper. The list ends with Harold Shipman who is also mentioned later on in this issue.

Elizabeth Bathory (Bloody Mary)

With a possible victim count of up to 650, it is safe to say that The Blood Countess was quite a "colorful figure" in history to say the least. If the accusations of what she did to her victims are true then Elizabeth Bathory is one of the most horrible countesses to ever live. Chaining up her victims until their hands squirted blood, forcing them to cook and eat parts of themselves, among other horrible acts, Elizabeth Bathory was a dreaded historical figure and was part of the inspiration for such monstrous creatures as vampires.

 What a bitch.

Jack the Ripper

Jack the Ripper is one of the most iconic figures in modern culture. When you think serial killer, at least one of the people you think of is usually Jack the Ripper. Though nobody has figured out who he was and it is doubted that he ever was captured, he stands out as a dark figure in our world.

Oddly enough he only really had 5 confirmed kills. Sounds kind of like a score or something. Look-e here, there is a Jack the Ripper video game. A few of them actually. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_the_Ripper_(2004_video_game)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_the_Ripper_(1987_video_game)
I think these games involved you trying to catch Jack the Ripper and not actually playing as the murderer.

H. H. Holms

Con-artist and serial killer. A pretty good combination. It seems those would work well together, and few married those "professions" together as well as H. H. Holmes did.

His great-great-grandson claims that Holmes was also Jack the Ripper. This would drastically increase The Ripper's body count as well as increase both killers' notoriety. This seems impossible as his body was exhumed and found to be buried in cement.

Once interviewed for his crimes, Holmes claimed that murder came naturally to him. Like he was born to do it.

Shiro Ishii

Shiro Ishii was a Japanese microbiologist and medical officer during World War II. He served as the director of unit 731, which was a biological warfare camp that experimented with the use of chemical and biological weapons on living captives. Often these captives we prisoners of war or even civilians from captured towns that the Japanese took from the Chinese during the War.

There was a movie made about these horrible experiments, and during my more morbid movie-watching period, I check it out. I think I am a far more disturbed Ham for watching it. I looked it up online and Lo and behold, it is put in its entirety on YouTube. If you are weak of stomach, I highly suggest not watching it, but if you want to see some of the most disturbing imagery put to tape, including a man crushed in a pressure chamber, then I present to you, Men Behind the Sun (Dubbed) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDpYTmCoQzY Keep in mind this is a dramatization of these events and not a recorded documentary of what happened (thank god) though the imagery is still very graphic and disturbing especially since most of it is based on what happened.

On a side note, just after the United States dropped the two atomic bombs on Japan, there was a retaliatory plan by the Japanese to unleash the bubonic plague on the town of San Francisco. This was under the suggestion of Shiro Ishii. Had this happened the U.S. casualties from this one attack could have been in the hundreds of thousands of civilians, but hey, an eye for an eye, right?

Albert Fish

Starting as a pedophile and an all-around depraved individual, Albert Fish murdered children and taunted the families with horrific letters of how he killed them and ate their bodies.

Authorities believed that Albert Fish killed as many as 10 children before he was caught.

He was killed in the electric chair on January 16, 1936.

Like many others on this list, there is a movie based on this wretched slime of a human being. The Grey Man was a 2007 biographical thriller based on his atrocities. The entire movie is on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y282p2VT9c8

Jeffery Dahmer

Here is a pretty good example of how our culture glamorizes these monsters. ---It's a pretty good assumption that none of his victims will ever get a Netflix series based on their life, but hey all they did was die at his hands, right?

Dahmer was a homosexual and a cannibal. Only one of which is currently illegal in the United States. I'll let you figure out which one. He committed the murder of 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. Many of his later murders involved necrophilia, cannibalism, and the preservation of body parts. He was beaten to death by a fellow inmate while in prison. Seems like there might be a little bit of justice in this world.

Harold Shipman

With a victim count of 250, Harold Shipman is the most prolific serial killer in the modern era. He was a doctor who mainly killed elderly women. Known as Dr. Death or the Angel of Death, Shipman acted as the physician to many of his victims and had many methods to dispatch their lives. His usual drug of choice to murder his victims was morphine which he gave lethal doses to his patients.

He was convicted of murdering 15 patients under his care. He was sentenced to life in prison in England. He died by hanging himself in his cell.

Ted Bundy

I'd like to thank all of you for coming to my Ted talk. Ha ha ha. Just kidding. I had to write that shitty joke.

By the look at the video, you would think that Zac Efron was a serial killer. Well he wasn't...or isn't...well who knows for sure at this point, but this is about Ted Bundy. A charming man who lured and killed multiple women and was sentenced to death for it.

His true victim number is unknown though he has confessed to over 30 of the killings. Because he was accused of killing multiple women across the United States he was given 3 death sentences over 2 separate trials. He even called himself "the most cold-blooded son of a bitch you'll ever meet." He decapitated several of his victims and kept the head in his apartment.

He was executed via the electric chair in Florida in 1989.

And that concludes my Ted talk.

Samuel Little

Confessing to the murder of 93 women over four decades Samuel Little was the most prolific serial killer in United States history. Seeming almost proud of his exploits he would never shy away from telling the story of his murders. Felt no remorse or regret. His method of killing was strangulation. He managed to get away for so long because his victims were drug addicts and drug addicts. People who fell through the cracks of our society and whom no one would come looking for or make a big fuss about them missing. He found it sexually satisfying for killing these women. Despite being a career criminal, he spent less than 10 years in prison before his death. He dies from a heart condition in his 80s.

Pedro Lopez

Another killer on this list with no real known victim list is estimated that he has a kill count of between 110 and 350. Some believe that the 350 estimate is even too low. Pedro is a killer created by a lifetime of poverty and sexual abuse. Raised by a prostitute who threw him out on the street after catching him having sex with his sister, Pedro would become the victim of several sexual predators that would rape and beat him. After spending time as a car thief, Pedro was arrested and gang-raped in prison. It was in prison that he vowed to never be a victim of abuse again, and over 2 weeks he exacted his revenge against his abusers.

From there on Pedro would target young girls, who he would kidnap and rape and strangle to death. Though he has been arrested several times and convicted of multiple murders, the most recent arrest in early 2000 found him insane and he was put in a mental institution. After a few years, he was found to be sane again and was released. He has since been wanted in connection with other murders but is at large.

No one knows where Pedro Lopez is today. So beware.

The B.T.K. Killer

The B.T.K. killer started killing in Wichita in the 70s and through the 80s disappeared for several decades having never been caught then he resurfaced in the 2000s as he taunted the police with more letters about his crimes. Enjoying getting credit for his crimes the B.T.K. killer would send letters and even call the police and the press to get credit for his crimes.

It is said that he loved the concept of killing. He would bind, torture, and then kill them.

His real name is Dennis Rader, he is currently serving 10 life sentences in El Dorado correctional facility.

John Wayne Gacy

This man gives clowns a bad image. Raping, torturing, and murdering at least 33 young men, John Wayne Gacy seemed like a man who could never commit such heinous crimes. A pillar of his community he was a precinct captain and dressed up like a clown to entertain at the local children's hospital.

He would patrol the streets for well-kept gay young men. He would trick into playing his games and then rape and strangle them. He buried many of them in the crawl space under his house, in the back yard, and even dumbed some in the river.

He was executed by lethal injection in 1994.

The Unabomber

Part 2 of my Ted talk - Would you stop it with the Ted talks bit? - Why? I find it humorous, on this dark topic. - Well no one said you had to write about serial killers. - Hey I am doing it anyway. - Alright but this is the last one. - Fine.

Anyway, Ted Kaczynski, aka, the Unabomber, is known more as a domestic terrorist than a serial killer, but I put him on this list anyway. Only really killing 3 people but injuring about 23, the Unabomber built a total of 16 bombs from a secluded cabin in the woods. Unlike most of the killers on this list, Ted Kaczynski did not kill for the purpose of sexual gratification. While living in the woods he saw firsthand the destruction of nature through industrialization and decided to fight against it.

Ted Kaczynski was incarcerated at the Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado, but has been since moved to the Federal Medical Center, Butner in North Carolina.

The Poughkeepsie Tapes

This disturbing film is, fortunately, a work of fiction. It tells the tale of a serial killer that recorded most of his exploits. The police found a collection of the tapes after searching an abandoned residents and finding several bodies buried in the backyard. Upon examining the tapes they were able to put together that this was a home of a serial killer. Rather disturbing film to watch as, despite the murders depicted, he also kept a woman hostage for many years and broke he of her free will and ability to make decisions for herself. If you want to see this movie, it is still available on Tubi.

Conclusion

One of the most disturbing facts about writing this article is there was wayyyyyy too much material to sift through and just pick out the "more interesting" ones. There is also a huge amount of exaggeration and contrary evidence to many of these "supposed" serial killers. Some of them are entirely true with large amounts of testimony and evidence, while some of them are littered with exaggeration and conspiracy theories, as well as blatant lies. That said, I do have a disclaimer at the beginning of this site warning you that this is not some kind of factual article meant to sway or give you any kind of opinion or idea on this subject. It's purely for entertainment value.

What can we truly believe in this world if we cannot even determine the difference between normal people and outright murderers anymore? Is anything real? What am I doing? What am I writing? Who are you? What are you looking at? What was I talking about?

Hold on Ham. Get a grip. You are spinning out of control again.

Yes, there are differences between the average person, and those accused of being or convicted of being, serial killers. A great difference, hopefully. That difference is connected with a large number of people dying in or around you and your life. If you find that you are living a lifestyle where people die around you often, and perhaps you black out, or have no recollection of how then maybe you suffer from some psychiatric disorder, and perhaps you should seek help.

Some people take great pleasure in seeing the pain of others. These sadists sometimes get such a sick rush from others' pain that they cannot help themselves but look for ways to do this all the time. As the eurythmics sang, "Some of them want to abuse you, some of them want to be abused." With this disturbing fact, we must find better deterrents from letting our society accept the existence and results of the creations of such people.

I have a suggestion that might deter some people from taking up a hobby like serial killing. How about if we catch said serial killer and determine that they are the monster we have been looking for, we do a different kind of punishment. Rather than life or death sentences we instead hand them over to the scientific testing community. Rather than testing horrible viruses, or chemicals that we create on animals we test them on these killers. I believe it would be far more humane. To the animals at least.

I am going to warn you, that some of the future articles won't all be fun and games. There is too much going on that I cannot ignore. I know this is used by whoever reads this as a fun escape from some of the dreaded parts of this world, so I won't hold it against you if you don't read everything I write. Hell, most of it must be pretty hard to read anyway with all the spelling and grammatical errors, so I am sure that most of you drift into a sort of word drunken stupor as you read these anyways.

If you want to suggest a subject for me to write about, then go ahead and drop me a line on Facebook, or Instagram, or send me a good old fashion email, or if you are ancient, then send me a real letter through the mail. Just send me a Facebook message, Instagram message, or email and I'll send you the address.

Well, I am sure that I have wasted plenty of your precious life with my crazy rants for today. So I bid you happy hunting... Wait, did I just say that at the end of an issue about serial killers? I didn't mean hunting people. No, I didn't. Great, here we go again.
